Systems & Identity
Microsoft 365, Windows and the identity layer underneath them. Administering users, licensing and mail flow, and troubleshooting when one of those pieces stops lining up with the others.
A personal technology portfolio focused on Microsoft 365, DNS, UniFi, networking and the systems I continue learning to understand, one layer at a time.
Six different sides of the same habit: wanting to understand how a system is actually put together, from identity and networking to the name and look of this portfolio itself.
Microsoft 365, Windows and the identity layer underneath them. Administering users, licensing and mail flow, and troubleshooting when one of those pieces stops lining up with the others.
Gateways, switches, access points, VLANs and DHCP. Understanding how a UniFi network is actually structured before trying to explain why traffic is moving the wrong way.
UniFi Protect and DNS filtering: recording and monitoring on one side, domain-level policy on the other. Two different ways of asking the same question, what is actually happening on this network.
Records, resolution, propagation and the domain configuration behind Microsoft 365 and Cloudflare. DNS is where most connectivity problems start, so it gets treated as its own subject, not a bullet under networking.
PowerShell scripts, lab experiments and a monitoring tool I built myself. I would rather understand a system by building something for it than by reading about it.
Domains, naming and visual identity, the same instincts that turned UpCliff.com into this portfolio. A strong name and a coherent look matter for a technical project as much as the system behind it.
Each note started as something I wanted to understand better. Full write-ups cover what I set out to learn, what I did, the technology involved, and what it taught me.
Technology never holds still. There is always another problem to solve, another system to understand, another skill the next role expects. That is not a drawback of the work. It is the work.
The UpCliff mindset is to keep going upward: understand the systems I work with a little better each time, write it down so I don't re-learn it, and keep building on what I know.
No arbitrary percentages. Just the platforms and tools I actually work in, grouped by where they sit on the mountain.
Always glad to talk through the Microsoft 365, DNS, UniFi and networking problems I am currently working through, or connect with anyone who shares the same technical curiosity. This is a personal portfolio, not a consulting practice.
